The Tweeddale Launches New Grain Whisky

Tweeddale Whisky Tasting

“The water was not fit to drink. To make it palatable, we had to add whisky. By diligent effort, I learned to like it” – Wartime UK Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill

Congregating in the oldest shop in London, Lock & Co. Hatters, independent Scottish whisky company R&B Distillers introduced their latest addition to its whisky repertoire – Grain of Truth.

Famed for being the official hatter to Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II and Wartime UK Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill as well as more recent hatters to Oscar winning actor Gary Oldman and supermodel David Gandy, Lock & Co. is the oldest hat shop in the world & one of the oldest family-owned businesses still in existence. It was also the chosen location for heritage brand, The Tweeddale to undertake tastings of its new single grain whisky, Grain of Truth.

Designed with the curious drinker in mind, Grain of Truth is a memorable, rich and complex single grain whisky. It is based on Victorian craftsmanship and innovative maturation techniques.

Possessing an uncommon composition of 50% wheat and 50% malted barley, the spirit has been matured in bourbon barrels and finished for nine months in fine Oloroso sherry hogshead. The latter of which has the effect of imbuing the whisky with rich and warming honey and orange notes on the nose.

Often mistakenly maligned as an inferior category of whisky, ‘Grain Whisky’ has recently witnessed somewhat of a resurgence in popularity and can now be found increasingly throughout bar menus and cocktail offerings alike.

With this increasing popularity, co-founder Alasdair Day hopes that Grain of Truth will follow on from the success of R&B Distillers’ award-winning single grain drink, Borders. Borders was lauded at the 2016 Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition (Bronze) and in Scottish Field Readers’ Whisky Challenge 2017.

The Tweeddale’s Grain of Truth 50% malted barley and sherry cask finish gives the whisky a more complex flavour than most typical grain whiskies. Served neat, on the rocks or with a mixer, the spirit can flourish in either form. At Aglaia we would recommend serving with a ginger beer pairing for a longer more refreshing drink.
