SELECTION, a new exhibition series showcasing a collection of works created exclusively by Russian artists, launched at Touchon&Co Gallery in downtown Los Angeles with an opening reception on Saturday, February 23rd. The series, which aims to bring contemporary Russian art to an American audience, is a collaboration between gallery owner, Zach Touchon, Maria Virge the founder of Buddha Club – a community of Russian creatives living overseas – and Natalia Georgadze, the founder of Russian art project, IWANT ART.
SELECTION ART SHOW – RUSSIAN SERIES
Ten artists were chosen for SELECTION’s inaugural Russian Series, which presents fifty artworks in a range of mediums across the 4,000-square-foot split-level gallery. Highlights include exerts from photo series ‘Moments, People’ and ‘Trans-Siberian’ by former Moscow-based AP photographer Yulia Morris, and eye-catching editorial portraits by Dasha Glukhova.
Characterizing “the condition and mood of Russian souls” a series of paintings by Daria Panfilova whimsically depict narwhals and arctic foxes; while Olesya Lipkovich’s new media works in subtle opaque blue, pink, gold, and lilac hues are reminiscent of layered sea glass. In contrast, Maria Virge showcases three striking acrylics on canvas from her portfolio, including ‘Ocean,’ ‘Absolute Confidence in Creators Light’ and ‘Passion’.
TOUCHON&CO GALLERY IN DTLA
With a vision to create a cultural hub for artists to connect and show their work in Downtown Los Angeles, Zach Touchon opened his namesake gallery in August 2017. Its proximity to the bourgeoning DTLA Arts district––a vibrant and edgy urban neighborhood punctuated with independent museums, media companies, ad agencies and maker studios––make it one of the area’s most exciting galleries to visit.
