London’s St James’ area has just added another exciting addition to its already eclectic restaurant offerings – San Carlo, London. The San Carlo group, synonymous for its award-winning contemporary Italian eateries, has just opened a stylish new restaurant in one of London’s recently gentrified areas.
Located at No.2 Regent Street in London’s St James’s area, San Carlo is a sophisticated setting in the heart of the rejuvenated Crown Estate. The 130-cover restaurant, split over two elegant floors, will have one of the worlds most celebrated Italian chefs steering it to success.
Chef Alberico Penati is at the helm of San Carlo
Italian born, Alberico Penati has been pursuing the art of culinary excellence from the age of 14. A pursuit that has seen him operate in some of the most rarefied and celebrated locations across Europe. From Ristorante Carpaccio, the first Italian restaurant in France to win a Michelin star; Harry’s Bar at Annabel’s; Alberico at Aspinalls and private members’ club, 5 Hertford Street, in Mayfair. Penati now takes residence in one of London’s exciting new neighbourhoods.
Famed for his use of only the finest Italian produce, Penati has launched a Spring Summer menu with creations such as Coda di rospo stufato con cipollotti e fave (Monkfish stewed with shallots and broad beans); Tagliata di manzo al rosmarino, lattuga salata (Beef tagliata with rosemary & sautéed lettuce) and Tagliolini con granchio e Carciofi (Tagliolini with crab and artichokes).
Luxurious Interiors and A Rejuvenated Location
Surrounded by exquisite interiors featuring the beautifully black veined white Arabescato marble through to a deep brown Collemandina marble, the décor is softened with its mint green pastel furnishings and brass rosettes. Splashes of colour and vibrancy decorate the walls thanks in part to French fashion designer Christian Lacroix’s commissioned art works.
Of the latest London addition to the San Carlo group, Managing Director Marcello Distefano was keen to stress the significance of how Regent Street became the location of choice.
“The Crown Estate’s £500 million investment in the St James’s area has already attracted some of the best names in international cuisine and we are delighted to be a part of this. The fact that we will also be working with Alberico Penati, one of the great Italian chefs, makes this new venture even more exciting.”
Owned by the Distefano family, the San Carlo Group Restaurants are now 20 in number. Often the celebrity location of choice, the company has offerings in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, Leeds and Leicester along with Qatar, Bahrain and Bangkok. The San Carlo group’s flagship sites, both of which are located in London include Signor Sassi in Knightsbridge and Cicchetti in Piccadilly.
