Magnificent Riverfront Views at Langham Chicago

Set on the banks of the Chicago River, the Langham Chicago is one of the most luxurious hotels in the cosmopolitan city. Residing within the AMA Plaza that was designed by the renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the floor-to-ceiling windows allow guests to lap-up the city skyline and river that feeds in from Lake Michigan. We visited over the St Patrick’s day weekend and were instantly wowed when we walked into our room to see a view of the bright green river, which the city of Chicago dye bright green each year to celebrate the Irish holiday.

Check-In Experience

We arrived at the hotel to find it was opposite the eyesore that is Trump’s hotel. Thankfully we weren’t checking in there, and instead we made our way into the Langham with the help of the door-staff and up to Floor 12C where the Club Level is located. Our Club Level check-in was a breeze, and before we knew it we were opening the doors to our stunning and contemporary Executive Club Room.

The Rooms at Langham Chicago

I’ve stayed at four different Langham hotels around the world now, and all of them have huge rooms even at the basic level. We stayed in an Executive Club Room with two double beds in it, however the room is also available with one King bed if you wish. Every room is a huge 516 ft², while the suites start from 720 ft².

The room contains every amenity you should need, including a large walk-in wardrobe with a dressing table complete with light-up mirror. The dressing table came in very handy for saving time and doing my make-up when my travelling companion was in the shower. Additionally, there is an extensive mini bar and a Butler service should you need anything during your stay.

Botticino Fiorito marble, Alaskan White granite, and Travertine makes up the stunning bathroom, and I really loved how the hotel designers had saved space by having a ‘wet room’ where there was a floor-to-ceiling glass screen and door with a large stand-alone shower directly next to the bath. Without this there wouldn’t have been room for both a stand-alone shower and the heavenly deep bath, but having both behind a screen in the wet room allowed for this. It was really quite impressive and I wish more hotels would think of these space-saving ways to ensure guests still have the luxury of enjoying a separate shower. There is nothing I despise more than a luxury hotel with a shower over the bath, or one or the other.

For those with a substantial budget, the Regent Suite and Infinity Suite are the epitome of luxury, with sweeping views over the city from the comfort of your bath…

The Club Level and Food Offering

The Club is expansive, spanning the entire one-side of Level 12C and providing guests with a quiet space to enjoy afternoon tea and breakfast. As well as the restaurant area there is also a separate area with comfortable sofas and chairs set around a contemporary fire pit.

The food offering is substantial and far better than most Club levels I have experienced. Breakfast included a variety of hot dishes, as well as a satisfying pastry station with the most incredible glazed-donuts I have ever eaten! For the more health-conscious there’s also fruit and yoghurt, and cold meats and cheeses.

Afternoon tea in the Club Level was quite something. A candy station was erected that included popcorn, Lindt chocolate, Hershey’s chocolate, among other delicious sweet goodies and treats. My favourite part however, was the Char Siu Bao (Steamed BBQ Porn Buns) on offer from the savoury station. They were divine and made me feel desperate to return to Malaysia!

Chuan Spa and Pool at Langham Chicago

After a long flight the Chuan spa was a very welcome respite, and even if you’re not traveling particularly far, you’ll want to dedicate at least a couple of hours for relaxing here. The swimming pool is large and the Jacuzzi, well…hot. But what is really special about the wellness area, are the saunas and steam rooms leading off from the luxurious changing rooms.

We spent hours flitting between the Himalayan Salt Stone Sauna, the Herbal Sauna, and the Oriental Steam Room, and napped blissfully on one of the four heated relaxation recliners. As someone who adores the heat but has spent the past three months in the depths of a British winter, spending time in the warm of the sauna’s and steam room felt rejuvenating and good for my lungs and skin. It helped with the post-flight dehydration of my skin and allowed me to fully relax before we conquered Chicago the following day.
