I think it’s really important to design things with a kind of personality – Marc Newson CBE
Ferrari has collaborated with renowned Industrial Designer to create a bespoke five-piece luggage collection exclusively for Ferrari Clients.
Inspired by the heritage of the Italian car manufacturer, Ferrari’s luggage collection uses aerodynamics as its grounding philosophy “with every piece being designed to look as if it can effortlessly overcome the resistance of the earth’s atmosphere”, as described by Newson himself.
Luggage handles have been inspired by the classical Ferrari steering wheels of years gone by and the colour scheme matching that of Modena Yellow – the colour of Ferrari’s iconic ‘prancing horse’ badge. Each item of luggage also comes complete with a personalised chassis plate, such as you would find on your own Ferrari should you be fortunate enough to own one.
Further inspiration is evident in the functional elements of Newton’s luggage collection. Developed with Ferrari’s engineers, the luggage trolley’s patented roller handle sliding mechanism uses similar techniques seen in the hybrid LaFerrari pedals, one of the car manufacturers most iconic supercars.
Newson himself is no stranger to understanding the intricacies of travel and design having designed for bicycle brand Biomega, a concept car for Ford and the livery of a privately owned aircraft, the Falcon 900B. Newton’s design credentials were further cemented following his appointment as Creative Director of Quantas Airways, designing the Australian airliner’s luxury first-class lounges in Melbourne and Sydney airports.
Newson’s portfolio has continued to flourish ever since with collaborations for Louis Vuitton, Nike, Montblanc and more recently with Apple’s departing design chief, Jonny Ive with whom he collaborated to create an all-diamond ring for charity.
The designer’s collections have also graced the hallowed walls of some of the world’s leading global art galleries and museums, exhibiting in the Design Museum in London, the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, the Powerhouse Museum of Sydney, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City
Produced at Schedoni, the official supplier of made-to-measure leather suitcases to Ferrari since 1977, Newson’s five-piece luxury luggage collection will be available through the Ferrari personalisation catalogue and will be exclusive to the marque’s customers. Furthermore, with every piece in the collection being designed with its very own chassis number every purchase is guaranteed to have its own exclusive identity.
Now, where did I park that Ferrari…
