The Jaguar E-type celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion award-winning luxury British watch maker, Bremont has developed an exclusive limited edition box set consisting of a Bremont Jaguar chronograph watch in green or grey and Bremont’s first ever rally timer. In addition, every box set comes with a uniquely special driving experience where you get the chance to take to the wheel of three iconic Jaguar E-types, putting them through their paces at Jaguar’s Fen End facility, set within England’s Warwickshire countryside.
Following its launch at the Geneva Motor Show back in March 1961 the British manufactured automobile was famously described by Enzo Ferrari “as the most beautiful car in the world”. The Jaguar E-type, with its 265 bhp and 3.8 litre straight-six engine, propelled this magnificent feat of design and engineering to a top speed of over 150 mph, making it the fastest production car in the world at the time. With famous owners such as Frank Sinatra, George Harrison, Brigitte Bardot, George Best and Steve McQueen, its legacy and fanfare has ensured that its place amongst motoring royalty continues 60 years on.
Drawing direct inspiration from the car itself, the 43mm limited edition Bremont E-type Jaguar watches feature a black dial representative of the E-type’s instrument gauges. The chamfered hour and minute hands replicate the car’s tachometer needle and the bezel and strap colours match the E-type 60 Edition Pantone’s of ‘Flat Out Grey’ and ‘Drop Everything Green’. The scratch resistant watch case is constructed from brushed stainless steel with polished bevels on the lugs and a winding crown engraved with the pattern of the period-correct Dunlop racing tyres that were fitted to the sports car at the time.
On the back of the watch Bremont have included an automatic winding rotor, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, taking the form of an exquisite miniaturisation of an alloy spoked E-type steering wheel. With Jaguar and Bremont’s collaborative history starting out ten years ago, with the Jaguar C-X75 watch in 2010, the two British brands were keen to mark this 60th milestone in their own unique ways.
“The Jaguar E-type is a genuine icon, as sensational today as the moment it was unveiled in 1961. It is testament to the E-type’s advanced design and engineering that it can still be enjoyed and admired as passionately 60 years on. The E-type 60 Collection is a lasting tribute for E-type admirers, honouring the car’s legacy and the achievements of the team that created it, many of whom have descendants working for Jaguar Classic today, expertly restoring, maintaining and future-proofing enjoyment for generations to come.” – Dan Pink, Director of Jaguar Classic.
Nick English, Bremont’s Co-Founder, went on to note that “being able to work with Jaguar on the 60th celebration of this iconic car is a real honour. There is so much detail and inspiration to work with on the watch designs and doing our first rally timer is a perfect and fitting tribute.”
I guess the next question is, do we go for the green or the grey watch?
