Modern Luxury at The Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid

The Hyatt Centric brand offers modern luxury hotels located in prime destinations. They are perfect for travellers who wish to be in the middle of all the action to easily explore the world’s most enthralling destinations.

The five-star Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid opened in December 2017 and it is an excellent example of the idea behind this distinct Hyatt brand. It is situated in the Gran Via (also known as the Spanish Broadway) which is right in the heart of this vibrant European capital and it is home to Europe’s first Centric property.

Location of The Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid

The hotel is within an easy walk to the main cultural and gastronomic hotspots in Madrid such as the “Golden Triangle” (the district connecting the Prado, Reina Sofía, and Thyssen museums),Palacio real, Plaza Mayor, Mercado San Miguel, as well as trendy Malasaña or Chueca. As for shopping, fear not, Gran Via is lined with shops with all the main high street brands and it is about a 10 minutes walk to Calle Serrano, an upscale shopping street where you will find luxurious shops.

Madrid welcomed us with sunny spring weather and from the airport, the taxi dropped us off by the entrance of the hotel. A very beautiful 1920’s 10-storey art decó building. There was no porter greeting us by the door or asking where we were going so we made our way into the lobby which has an unusual layout – the reception was not at the front but at the back, next to the Ondas Vermutería bar.

Check-in Experience

We passed through a cool selfie room and while I waited to check-in I had a look at the property’s bar, which has a music and radio themed décor inspired by the Cadena Ser broadcasting studios in the building opposite. A fellow guest recommended the Ondas Vermutería as the place to have a vermouth or a gourmet coffee and chill.

Check in was quick and efficient. A team member presented my room key card and encouraged us to go and have fun. We were staying on the 9th floor and as the glass lift went up, my toddler and I were mesmerised staring at the red hand fans hanging out in the interior patio of the building.

The Room at The Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid

The best thing about our room was the large terrace which had sweeping views of the Gran Via and from where we could contemplate the statues adorning the domes of the grand buildings. The room decor was modern and functional; comfy desk, chair, a 55-inch TV and plenty of sockets including USB. The bathroom had a big shower with two heads (one rainfall) and eco-friendly toiletries.

I loved the throw pillows which are printed with cats wearing headphones inviting you to ‘fiesta’ or ‘siesta’, a nod to Spanish and Madrid culture. Even though this is a very busy street, the soundproofing must be excellent as my daughter and I slept soundly in a big comfortable bed. Also, they provide boxed water and not plastic bottles which is great for the environment as we move away from using plastic as a society.

Food Offering at The Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid

The next morning we went to the first floor for breakfast and surprisingly, a very friendly member of staff, offered an excellent table overlooking the Gran Via. Usually, as soon as they see you and the baby, they take you to the “out of the way” table as kids can be unpredictable. The crowd at that time was a mixture of business and leisure travellers and my child quite enjoyed the attention she received as the youngest customer having breakfast.

I felt so comfortable in this enchanting space that I decided to come back for lunch to Hielo y Carbón, the hotel’s onsite restaurant. Their menu is a mixture of Spanish and Peruvian cuisine and I went for their daily set menu which was great value for money. On my way out, I had a quick look at the Gintonería bar, specialising in gin and tonics but had no time to try one as we had to head off to the airport.

We loved our sweet and short stay at the Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid. The stylish contemporary design, the very friendly, relaxed service and the perfect central location made me sad to be heading for the check out. I couldn’t try their 24-hour gym but there will be a next time as this is a place I will definitely return in the near future.
